Sudo Motor Function
Sudomotor Testing:
Sudomotor function refers to the autonomic nervous system control of sweat gland activity in response to various environmental, health, illness and other individual factors. Sudomotor refers to the nerve fibers that control the activity of sweat glands and the production of sweat. Sudomotor function is a key part of thermoregulation, allowing the body to cool down and maintain a core temperature that’s optimal for cellular function. Sweat production is also important for grip, wound healing, and microbial defense. Although a skin biopsy is the gold standard for testing sudomotor function, there are several good non-invasive tests:
- Quantitative sudomotor axon reflex test (QSART)
- Thermoregulatory sweat test (TST)
- Sympathetic skin response (SSR)
- Neuropad
- Sudoscan
- Quantitative direct and indirect axon reflex test (QDIRT)
